💬 General

homerun is a household management app that helps families, couples, and roommates track chores, manage shopping lists, earn rewards, and control smart home devices — all from one shared screen. It's designed to run on a tablet mounted on your kitchen wall, but works on any device with a browser.

Any device with a modern web browser — iPads, Android tablets, Amazon Fire tablets, phones, laptops, and desktops. No app download needed. We recommend a wall-mounted tablet for the "always-on dashboard" experience, but it's entirely optional.

Yes. The Free plan is free forever for up to 2 people, with chores, the calendar, shopping, rewards and Home Assistant. Standard ($4.99/month, up to 4 people) adds voice, smart suggestions and aisle sorting. Family ($9.99/month, unlimited people) adds Ask homerun. See the pricing page for details.

No. A $50 Amazon Fire tablet works perfectly. An old iPad gathering dust? Perfect. Your phone? Also works. Mount it on the wall, prop it on the counter, or just bookmark it on your laptop. The tablet setup guide walks through picking, installing and mounting one.

homerun requires an internet connection to sync data between household members in real-time. When one person checks off a chore, everyone sees it instantly. Offline support is on the roadmap.

Yes. We use Google Firebase with industry-standard encryption. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Only authenticated members of your household can access your data. We never sell your information. A few trusted services help run homerun, such as Google Gemini for AI features and Stripe for payments. See our privacy policy for the full list.

⚙️ Setup & Account

Share your 6-character household code (found in the profile dropdown). They sign in with their own Google account and enter the code. Done — they're in.

For kids without Google accounts, you can add "placeholder" members during setup. These appear as assignable profiles without needing a separate login.

Currently, each account belongs to one household. Multiple household support is planned for a future update.

homerun is a web app, so you add it from your browser instead of an app store. On iPad or iPhone, open app.joinhome.run in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. On Android, open it in Chrome, tap the ⋮ menu, then Add to home screen or Install app. The setup guide has steps for Fire tablets and computers too.

On iPad, go to Settings › Display & Brightness › Auto-Lock and choose Never, and keep Low Power Mode off. On Android and Fire tablets, turn on Stay awake in Developer options so the screen stays on while it's charging. Step-by-step instructions are in the setup guide.

A 10–11 inch tablet suits most homes. An iPad (10th gen or newer) is our pick, a Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ or FE works well on Android, and an Amazon Fire HD 10 works on a budget. Put it somewhere everyone passes, like the kitchen or the hallway to the garage, centered about 57–60 inches off the floor. See the setup guide for mounts and power.

Yes. The evening recap tells you how today went and what's coming tomorrow, by push notification, text message, or both. You pick the time and whether it covers the whole household or just your own chores and events. Turn it on from your avatar menu, then the bell icon. It's included on every plan. Learn more.

Not yet, but it's coming soon. You'll be able to reply to homerun with things like "add oat milk to Costco" or "watered the plants" and it will update your lists and chores.

Contact us at support@joinhome.run and we'll delete your account and all associated data within 48 hours.

Currently, Google Sign-In is the only authentication method. We're exploring Apple Sign-In and email/password options for the future.

✓ Chores & Tasks

When you create a chore, choose a frequency: daily, weekly (pick specific days), every X days, or monthly. The chore automatically generates instances on the correct dates. You can set an end date to stop recurrence.

Yes! Assign a chore to multiple people and homerun will automatically rotate fairly between them each recurrence. No one gets permanently stuck with the worst jobs.

Long-press (hold ~1 second) on a chore card, then drag it to the target day in the date strip at the top. Release to reschedule. You can also tap the chore to open the edit modal and change the date manually.

Swipe left on a chore card to reveal the delete button. For recurring chores, you'll be asked whether to delete "just this instance" or "this and all future occurrences."

Incomplete chores from earlier in the week "roll up" and appear on today's view so nothing gets lost. You can complete them (they still earn points, though potentially reduced), skip them, or delete them.

🛒 Shopping

Yes — that's the core design. Create a list for each store you shop at (Costco, Target, your local grocery store, pharmacy, etc.). Each list gets its own emoji, and you can drag items between lists.

Long-press (hold ~600ms) on a list's header/title. The app switches to a focused, full-screen view of just that list — optimized for checking items off in the store aisle.

Use voice input — speak multiple items and homerun will parse them. You can also use the suggestion chips to quickly tap common items (Milk, Eggs, Bread, etc.) without typing.

💡 Smart Home

Yes, currently. The smart home integration connects to Home Assistant via its REST and WebSocket APIs. You need a running HA instance and a Long-Lived Access Token.

Google Home and Amazon Alexa direct integrations are on the roadmap.

In Home Assistant: click your profile (bottom-left) → scroll to "Long-Lived Access Tokens" → click "Create Token" → give it a name (e.g., "homerun") → copy the token. Paste it into homerun's smart home settings.

Lights (with brightness & color temp), switches, fans, climate/thermostats, locks, covers/blinds, media players, cameras, vacuums, alarms, humidifiers, and more. Essentially any entity registered in Home Assistant.

Common fixes:

  • Check the URL — include the port (usually :8123). Example: http://192.168.1.100:8123
  • Use the right protocol — use http:// for local IPs, https:// for remote/Nabu Casa
  • Verify the token — tokens are long strings. Make sure you copied the full thing.
  • Same network — if using a local IP, your device must be on the same WiFi as Home Assistant
  • Firewall/CORS — ensure HA isn't blocking requests from external origins

✦ AI & Voice

Voice requires microphone permission. Check these things:

  • Your browser must have microphone access — look for the mic icon in the address bar
  • On iOS Safari, you may need to tap "Allow" when prompted
  • Ensure your device has a working microphone
  • The recording auto-stops after 1.5s of silence — speak promptly after tapping the mic

Dismiss suggestions you don't want by tapping ✕ — the AI learns from dismissals and adjusts. If you didn't select "AI Suggestions" during onboarding, they won't appear. You can adjust this in your goals/preferences.

Speak naturally! The AI understands context. Examples:

  • "Vacuum every Thursday" → weekly recurring chore
  • "I mopped the kitchen" → marks today's mopping as done
  • "Add laundry for Sarah tomorrow" → one-time chore assigned to Sarah
  • "Clean gutters monthly" → monthly recurring chore
  • "Take out trash" → one-time chore for today

🔧 Troubleshooting

Try these steps:

  • Check your internet connection speed
  • Clear browser cache and reload
  • On older tablets, close other browser tabs to free memory
  • homerun uses lazy-loading — the first view loads fast, other sections load as needed

homerun uses real-time sync — changes should appear instantly. If they don't:

  • Ensure both devices are online
  • Try refreshing the page on the receiving device
  • Check that both users are in the same household

Open the profile dropdown (tap your avatar in the top-right) — your household code is displayed there. Share it with anyone who needs to join.
